The next day, October 28, we drove to Troodos, a mountainous area in central Cyprus, where there had been a vacation retreat for the British forces 50 years ago when Ann and David's father had been stationed there. Ann remembered very well the huge asbestos mine that was a landmark on their way to Troodos. The mine closed in 1988, but it's marked by an overlook from the road with some historical data posted on a board.
